Before UNW, was on staff at Greenville College in Illinois from 2008-10, where he worked with the running backs and kick returners with the team winning the UMAC South title with a 7-3 record…..Under his tutelage, Anthony Ambers was named the UMAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2009; amassing just over 1,500 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. Ambers 157 yards rushing per game was second in the Nation in all of DIII…..Named the Head Track coach at South High School in the Fall of 2018 and has served as the Track head coach for four years…..Formerly served as Head Track Coach at Edison where his girl’s teams won three State Class A titles……Sutton holds a B.A. and has completed coursework towards his Masters of Arts in Education degree…..He works as a High School Specialist for the Minneapolis Public Schools. He also played Division II football at the University of Upper Iowa as a cornerback…..He brings two years of prep football coaching experience to the program, spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons on the staff at Menomonie High School……Benion’s background transcends the football field, having earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Marketing from Augsburg University in 2020…..While earning his degree at Augsburg, Benion earned varsity letters for the football program where he was a standout athlete playing both wide receiver and defensive back. Among his accomplishments at Augsburg are six career pass breakups, 20 receptions, 500 yards, six touchdowns, and a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown…..In addition to a strong background with business marketing, Benion has built a strong leadership profile as well, working in a leadership group at Augsburg University, Distinguished Gentleman for Upcoming Athletes, and Multicultural Student Services. |

Lived his entire life in the Minneapolis area….. Born and raised in Northeast Minneapolis…..Attended high school at Grace in Fridley (now Totino Grace)…..Graduated with B.S. and M.A.T. degrees from University of Wisconsin-River Falls…..Earned Educational Specialist degree from University of St. Thomas. Began teaching career as a substitute teacher. He was 9 years old. I really have a heart for the community and for these kids…..I truly love the game of football. It is more than just, running, hitting, passing and making touchdowns. Played collegiately at Northwestern-St. Paul, earning all-conference, All-NCAA second-team honors as a defensive lineman, while also competing in throws for the track and field team. Had 121 career tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, and 3 blocked field goals for the Eagles.....Served as a captain his senior year. His teams finished with a 31-11, tying the record for the winningest class in UNW football history.....During the 2016 campaign, UNW football had its first ever NCAA Division III national tournament berth, facing No. 2-ranked St. Thomas.....currently sits second on the UNW record books for the discus throw and seventh all-time in the Javelin.....Was the H-backs and tight ends coach at his high school alma mater, St. Louis Park (2018-2019). While there, he coached two all-conference athletes and also served as placekicker coach for special teams.....Was the graduate assistant at Augsburg University from (2019-2022). During this time, was the Assistant Recruiting coordinator and also served as Defensive Line and Outside Linebackers coach.....While there, coached two MIAC-All Conference Athletes and helped recruit one of Augsburg biggest recruiting classes....Earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology as well as a Minor focused in Science from the University of Northwestern St. Paul.....Earned his Masters in Education from Augsburg University and is currently teaching in District 196.....Resides in the South Metro with his 2 year old son Judah. |
