Lettering
In order to letter in football, a student-athlete must meet the following criteria:
- 1) Play in 50% of the varsity quarters through the first Section game. (A total of 9 games, 36 total quarters. Must play in 18 to earn a letter.)
- A) For a student-athlete to play in a quarter, all they must do is be on the field for one play during that quarter.
- B) Example: Players only participates on kick-off and kick-off returns. There must be one of each during a game (assuming a game is a 0-0 tie). If a player participated in the kick off at the start of the game, and the kick-off return at the start of the second half and played no other plays, they would have played two quarters in the game.
- 2) Seniors who do not meet the criteria BUT played the whole season, will letter.
- 3) Letter awards for injured players who do not meet the criteria will be at the discretion of the Head Coach.
- Please communicate with the coach directly in charge of the team you student is participating on. Please contact Coach McIntee for the JV team and Coach Ernest Sutton for the Varsity team.
Playing Time
- Playing time is at the coach’s discretion. Factors that may impact playing time are skill, attendance and full participation at practice, academics, attitude, focus, coachability, and a belief that the team is the most important aspect of football
- A new group established by alumni and current parents to have pre-game tailgating before home games.
- We have been told that there should be busses for all games, but, we need to be ready in case there are none, especially for JV games. Parents should all fill out the Transportation Waiver. This allows parents to transport their players and others to and from games. This is extremely important when a bus does not show up. If a player does not have a transportation waiver on file for the season, and there is no bus, the player will not be able to attend the away game. (This is only for games not played at South.)
- This season we will utilize Snap Raise; which is a crowd sourcing platform we have used in the past. Each athlete will need to submit 20 emails requesting support. Some student athletes may need help with identifying those 20 emails. The funds raised will be submitted to the South High School Foundation. The Foundation is the official group that assists school groups/teams in raising funds.
